Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
73410 Never Loses Suction Allergy Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
This bagless upright vacuum cleaner from Morphy Richards is a first for the UK. That’s because it features ‘Never Loses Suction’ cyclone technology, combined with a detachable lift-away canister.
Never Loses Suction technology
The ‘Never Loses Suction’ technology means that as the canister fills, constant pick-up performance is maintained as you vacuum around your home.
Lift-away canister
The lift-away canister is completely detachable, giving you the flexibility to clean anywhere. It’s perfect for awkward areas, like stairs and upholstery. The lift-away canister is really easy to use; simply release the handle, unclip the canister, add your attachment and away you go - powerful, portable cleaning in three easy steps! And thanks to the advanced technology, you’ll never lose suction in those hard-to-reach places.
Perfect for allergy sufferers
The high-performance washable HEPA filters are easy to access and maintain. They ensure that the dust and dirt stay in the canister and are not emitted back into the atmosphere, and with the hygienic one-touch emptying system, this vacuum cleaner is ideal for allergy sufferers.
Manoeuvrability
The pivoting floorhead makes it really easy to manoeuvre your upright vacuum cleaner around the contours of your home, even around corners and under furniture.
Suitable for all floors
At Morphy Richards we know most households now have a mixture of hard floors and carpets, so with this in mind we designed a brush bar power switch to make this vacuum cleaner suitable for all floor types. It’s the fastest way to get the deepest clean; with a simple press of a switch you can move from hard floors to carpets and rugs.
Freedom from plugs
The long cable will enable you to vacuum throughout your home without the need to constantly change sockets, helping to save you time. With a cleaning range of 11 m in lift away mode you can clean further and get to the most awkward places easily.
Lightweight
At only 6.5 kg this vacuum cleaner is light in weight, making it easier for you to clean around your home, and it is even lighter in lift-away mode at only 3.1 kg.
Large Capacity
With a total capacity of 3.2 litres you won’t have to keep emptying the dust canister, ideal for busy households.
Accessories
With a crevice tool to help clean those hard to reach areas and a dusting brush to ensure a thorough clean throughout your home, the Never Loses Suction Allergy bagless upright vacuum cleaner is suitable for all households. A bleed valve on the handle allows the suction to be controlled for use with accessories. You’ll find this cleaner easy to assemble, use and maintain so vacuuming need never be a chore again.

    Customer Reviews

I know it`s shallow of me, but this is very, very ugly. I`d never even realised that a vacuum cleaner could be either attractive or ugly before, but this is more like a sci-fi villain than domestic appliance. On the other hand, that isn`t even slightly important, and it`s a cracking cleaner!
I like the light weight, I like the power; and I particularly liked the ease with which it all slotted together, as it all made sense and clicked together nicely. Due to its weight it can comfortably be taken up and down stairs, and it has a very lengthy flex too. It vacuums powerfully, and I think this is a good price as well. As with all - and I mean all - vacuums, the attachments are a problem, they have to be stuffed onto the handle to stay on and therefore it can be hard to get them off again, and whilst I think it`s easier to use a smaller handheld to do the stairs or the car, this is something Morphy Richards have considered and you can adjust this to be a manageable handheld device; but for a good stretch of carpet, including getting close to the edges, this is very good indeed. I like it...I just feel I need to cover it up with something when it isn`t in use!

A Vacuum Cleaner with an Identity Crisis?
Vacuum cleaners can be much-of-a-muchness these days. Take the tried and tested bag-less design, add a few gimmicks, and market it as something new a wonderful.
I have used my fair share of Vacuums over the years, from classic old Hoovers with the sinister wide front light that seem to creep across the floor on their own, to 3-in-1 shampoo vacuums, to the venerable Henry, to Dysons and other me-too styled efforts.
And so we come to the Morphy Richards 73410. I don't doubt their claims of "Never Loses Suction" in it's name, as that is pretty much how most modern bag-less cleaners work (provided you clean the filters regularly). For me, a vacuum cleaner will win or lose on not just its performance, but also its ergonomics and ease of use. Sadly for this device, it falls down in several key areas.
I will gloss over the way it looks - it's not a priority, but this is one ugly device. Function clearly came before form when this was designed, so the designers have tried to counter it's inherent ugliness with a snazzy metallic red paint job - it sort of works.
The weight. Despite a bullet point on the advert stating "lightweight" and technically not weighing too much, this feels quite a heavy machine in practice. When the device is in regular "upright" mode the positioning of the heaviest part of the machine (the motor) half-way up its spine results in you feeling most of that weight in your arm. Other uprights tend to position the heaviest parts at the base so that you are only feeling the weight of the dust canister. This for me is probably it's biggest black mark, as manufacturers should be trying to make household chores more effortless, not more difficult and I get the feeling from some fairly extensive use that this fact alone will prove to be an annoyance to a lot people. The canister section pivots on an axis to aid your steering, but again because of the weight balance, your wrist has to do more work than it probably should.
The device can be split in two by detaching the main cleaning foot, so that you just carry the motorised part in one hand and the wand in the other, but because of the bulky heft of it, you're really not gaining much. Granted it's not as bad as a 20 year old vacuum cleaner in that respect, but it's still fairly bulky.
The power cord itself is of insufficient length to do a decent number of rooms at the same time and protrudes at a very low height. Normally these days, manufacturers will pride themselves on how the cord is "extra length" to allow you to do more without having to keep unplugging and changing location, but not this one unfortunately - this is a sticking point for me.
The power switch is a simple red rocker switch. Quite industrial given the attempts to jazz-up the looks of the machine, but then I sense maybe the designers didn't think anyone would really care about that given the overall appearance (and they'd be right). I don't think the positioning is very ergonomic (and that goes for a lot of machines), as it's positioned at the top of the dust canister. You can't operate it with your foot, neither can you operate it with your controlling hand. Maybe there is a reason for this, but I'd like to not to have to reach down with my free hand - minor niggle.
Other variants of this model can come with a turbo brush-bar attachment for things like pet hair, and with a longer crevice tool.
Plus points include seemingly ok build quality - everything goes together quite nicely and clicks into place. Changing the parts around is easy enough. Most of the pipe joints are on pivots to prevent strain on the pipes. It's fairly quiet in operation and the brush bar on the main foot tool works well. Turning it from upright mode to carry mode is straight forward. It comes with a 5 year warranty which is very good, and stands to add a degree of consumer confidence, as warranties tend to go hand-in-hand with how long manufacturers are prepared to gamble their products' durability on.
Ultimately though, I'm left disappointed and confused about this product. As an upright, it offers good suction but fails on it's ungainly and unbalanced weight which you are made well-aware of in operation and an annoyingly short power cord which would have been an easily avoidable issue if it had been tested more thoroughly in the field before being released to market. As a carry vacuum, it fails again, as it is still quite heavy and bulky in use and frankly I fail to see the need for this function when a similar (lighter) upright could be carried in a similar fashion and operated in the same way.
The competition is the other thorn in this machine's side, as a Vax Mach Air Reach can be had for similar money, yet is noticeably lighter in weight, offers all the suction, and renders the detachable foot of the Morphy Richards a mere gimmick by being easy to pick up in one go and with one finger (if you are so inclined) as well as having a compact-able handle to reduce its height for storage and a usefully longer power cord.
    Sorry Morphy Richards. Not impressed.
