Out of the box the cleaner works quite well.
The self re-coiling mains lead on my one is 4.6m to the red warning line (makers say it is 5m long).
What I really missed was a dusting brush, all you get is a Carpet Floor Brush and a Crevice Tool (stowed on machine back).
In the end, I bought a "NUMATIC HIGH QUALITY HENRY 32MM VACUUM DUSTING BRUSH" from an on-line auction site for under £3.00 to make the cleaner complete.
Using the cleaner is easy but I would have made the cord rewind and power buttons different colours (they are both grey) for easy identification when you are using the cleaner.
The cleaners dirt container can also be emptied fairly easily making minimal mess.
What I don't like are the filters, mainly the one in the dirt container.
To maintain suction you have to peel by hand the layers of dust that collect on this (or use another vacuum cleaner to clean it).
In fact the manual says "To Maintain pick-up performance, please clean the filters when you empty the cleaner"
This and the other filters also need to be washed and I found you have to remove the fine mesh to get all the dirt off the main filter element.
The filters also need to be replaced (three of them).

I wouldn't have expected so much from such a small, compact vacuum cleaner, but I am actually delighted with it. The Dirt Devil 1800 Watt Bagless Cylinder is very lightweight and perfect for moving around the house to tackle those harder to reach areas. The retractable power cable and on-unit tool storage makes it very easy to store in even the smallest corner or cupboard.
This vacuum cleaner has been ideal for introducing my primary school aged children to the virtues of keeping their own bedrooms clean and tidy with the incentive that they get to use the Dirt Devil themselves, something that they could not do with our very heavy Dyson upright cleaner. Even following a recent accident with a pot of glitter, my 7 year old daughter was very easily able to collect and use this device to make good the mess very quickly and without any of the usual stress
I am able to use this for one of the jobs that I usually dread, vacuuming the stairs! The unit is very easily held in one hand whilst using the other to clean each step without having to stretch the hose or bend around awkward corners. With the use of a power extension, it is just as simple to vacuum the car, so much easier than lugging the Dyson around the garden!
